67 IMEC cadets celebrate Graduation Rites

MARIVELES, BATAAN – 92 members of the Maritime Academy of Asia and the Pacific’s Recensereans Class of 2020 celebrated their graduation rites on 19th June 2020. Among them, 67 were sponsored by International Maritime Employers’ Council (IMEC).

In accordance with the new protocols brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic, the event was attended only by cadets and MAAP faculty staff, whilst measures such as social distancing and the wearing of face masks were made mandatory for all attendees.

In his inspirational message, MAAP President VADM Eduardo Ma R Santos AFP (Ret) emphasised that “while the circumstances of this graduation is unprecedented since it is the first to be celebrated without the presence of parents and loved ones, I hope that the same circumstances also bonded you more as a class, and I know that you will come out of this with a better appreciation for family, and that you will develop the virtues of adaptiveness and resilience.”

Five IMEC-sponsored graduates were also awarded with special distinctions for their display of excellence in various fields:

1. Ens. Ababat, John Kenneth – Best in Shipboard Training for Marine Transportation
2. Ens. Seda, Ralph Jewwel – Best in Shipboard Training for Marine Engineering
3. Ens. Bagasin, Johny Shar – Leadership Award
4. Ens. Lazarte, Arbee Jay – Conduct Award
5. Ens. Monayao, Chris Kaizer – Professional Subjects Award for Marine Transportation

“This is definitely a unique graduation, but still, we have nothing but gratitude to our alma mater and sponsors for helping us through the entirety of our stay here in MAAP. Now it’s time for us to give back and do our best in order to become the world-class maritime officers that we were meant to be”, commented Ens. Bagasin, the Fleet Commander of the graduating batch.
