First IMEC Indian Sub-Continent Train the Trainer Course Conducted

12 May 2022

IMEC is pleased to announce that the first batch of twenty-two lecturers from the Indian Sub-continent have started the organisation’s train the trainer programme.

Commenced as a pilot course in 2020, IMEC’s train the trainer programme, run by Solent University, aims to give maritime instructors some additional teaching tools to use in their classes.  Originally created for instructors from the Philippines, the course was widened to include instructors from Eastern Europe in 2021 and to the Indian Sub-continent in 2022.

Speaking about the course, IMEC’s Head of Training and Operations Mr. Adam Lewis said:

“When we partnered with Solent University, our aim was for physical courses to be in the Philippines a couple of times per year.  As the pandemic hit, the commencement of the programme was temporarily postponed, but we quickly realised that we could utilise the university’s online platform to deliver these courses remotely.  The conversion of this course to a virtual format has been a huge success and has allowed us to quickly offer this training to instructors from other geographic regions”.

Each participant undertakes three weeks of training and then becomes officially certified from the University.  To date sixty trainers have completed the course, with a further eighty trainers undertaking the course in 2022.  The programme is fully funded by the International Maritime Training Funds, so participants can undertake the course free of charge.
