Although many IMEC members employ seafarers from India and the Philippines and use manning agents in these countries, few Members are actually based there. Therefore to ensure that there is a two-way flow of information between IMEC and these two major labour supply countries, IMEC has appointed two Local Contact Representatives to act as a conduit between the local manning community operating for IMEC members and the IMEC secretariat.
These representatives arrange periodic meetings to brief the local agents on developments affecting IMEC activities and, in particular, they co-ordinate on behalf of IMEC the local wage negotiations in both countries.
Involvement of manning agents in local meetings or other briefings organised by the Contact Representatives is not automatic. Any agent wishing to participate must obtain a nomination from their principal.
In addition to the representatives in India and the Philippines, IMEC has also appointed a representative to act as co-ordinator with regard to the negotiations over the TCC Agreements covering German beneficially-owned ships.
Each of the three local contact representatives is a member of the Executive Board.
