Approximately 90% of the world’s goods are transported by sea, everything from oil and steel, to foodstuffs, clothes, and luxury consumables. Across the world there are some 470,000 ships officers sailing on almost 60,000 ships performing some of the most important roles in international trade.
As the numbers of ships continues to grow it’s critical to the maritime industry and to the global economy, that the supply of high quality, highly skilled seafarers grows also.
The IMEC Recruitment and Training Committee was established in 2006 in order to address this requirement. It is responsible for overseeing the various IMEC training initiatives including the Cadet Training Enhanced Programme, Rating to Officer Scheme and the English Language courses.
