Ships Rating Programme

A ship is a machine like none other. The average modern containership is over 3 times the length of the international space station, over 300 times the weight of a fully laden Airbus A380 but can still move through the water at over 45 kilometres per hour.

And seafaring is a career like none other. Imagine setting sail from Manila on one of these ships, bound for a destination on the other side of the world. Imagine the friends you will meet onboard, the sights you will see on the way, whilst being rest assured that you have chosen a career with good salary and career progression opportunities.

IMEC believes that everybody with the drive and the potential to become a seafarer should be given the opportunity to pursue their dream, regardless of their financial situation.

Therefore in 2017, IMEC introduced a new training initiative known as the Ships Rating Programme. The 5 month program in Maritime Academy of Asia and the Pacific (MAAP) is designed to bring opportunities for young people from underprivileged backgrounds by providing the education needed to become competent seafarers.

After 5 months of successful training, each candidate will be eligible for employment as a Junior Rating in a ship’s engine room and will be a valued member within a highly trained engineering team. We will develop your engineering competency but it is up to you to demonstrate your qualities as a seafarer.

So do you think you have what it takes to become one of IMEC’s next Engine Rating trainees? If so, complete the application form by registering on this link, schedule your exam and start your #BeMoreWithIMEC journey!
