Cadet Training – India

Start your journey

The IMEC India Cadet Training Programme launched in September 2023 is a 2.5 year course which provides Indian nationals with Deck and Engineering opportunities. IMEC has partnered with three of the top training institutions accredited by the IMU, and formally endorsed by FOSMA and MASSA to provide IMEC scholars with the best maritime training in India, focusing on sustainable and responsible education principals and professional excellence.

Come and show us that you’re the best by being awarded an IMEC Scholarship!

What makes an IMEC scholar different is that you will have the opportunity to be interviewed and selected from a pool of multiple shipping companies who as part of their own IMEC membership are advocated as employers who have sustainable operating practices. This means that you are part of a collective of forward thinking and innovative professionals who are focused on doing what’s right for the industry. IMEC Scholars not only train to be competent seafarers but are selected because of their potential to be next generation of senior managers at sea or shoreside. Our courses are designed to create well-rounded individuals who are fully prepared for an ever changing and dynamic maritime industry.

The course is split into two phases with the first year spent with your chosen academy. After successful completion of year one, your sponsor will organise the required amount of sea time onboard one of their vessels, during which time you shall complete your onboard training record book. After successful completion, you shall return home and pass your Officer of the Watch examinations. Upon successful qualification, you shall then be endorsed to your sponsor for employment.
